RHI info Domestic & Non-Domestic

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a UK Government scheme set up to encourage uptake of renewable heat technologies among householders, communities and businesses through the provision of financial incentives. The UK Government expects the RHI to make a significant contribution towards their 2020 ambition of having 12 per cent of heating coming from renewable sources. The Renewable Heat Incentive was the first of its kind in the world.

For qualifying Biomass installations the RHI scheme pays householders and businesses a quarterly index linked income for 7 or 20 years depending upon the scheme

Domestic Biomass & EPC's

If you are thinking about having Biomass heating installed in a domestic property and you would like to know how exactly much money you will receive from the Renewable Heat Incentive you will need to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) carried out on your property.

If your EPC recommends cavity and/or loft insulation you will need to get the measure/s installed before you can be eligible for RHI payments. In some cases, you may not have loft and/or cavity in your property and your EPC won’t recommend these measures so if this happens you will probably still be eligible for RHI payments. If you have an EPC and you are unsure about this, please feel free to send us your EPC and we will help you with this.

Your EPC needs to have been carried out from April 2012 and onwards. However if you have had a material change in your home since you had the EPC carried out such as cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, extensions etc. you will need to have another EPC.

To find someone who is registered to carry out an energy assessment and produce an EPC you can go the EPC Register website and search for an assessor.

If you already have an EPC you can download it from the EPC Register.
If you would like to find out how much RHI you could claim and you have an EPC, please ring us on 01558 824100 or send your EPC to info@biofutures.co.uk and we can let you know.

The Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is available for 20 years for commercial biomass systems. So anything from a small commercial factories, farms, pubs, warehouses, golf clubs to large scale warehouses factories and schools can all claim the commercial RHI if they switch to biomass heating.

With the payments from the RHI, your installations costs would be covered within 5 -10 years. You could then use the remaining years of RHI money to pay for you fuel costs effectively running your business’ heating and hot water needs for FREE!
