With limited opportunities to improve the energy performance and environmental credentials of this Grade II listed building the energy consultant recommended biomass. Biofutures specified a 35kW Biotech wood pellet boiler with weather compensation*. The boiler and pellet store are housed in a larch clad extension to the side of the house and pellets are fed to the boiler by an automated “mole” vacuum.

The owners commented “… it’s the first time the house has been comfortable to live in”.

Weather compensation means the boiler “reads” internal and external temperatures and modulates output to deliver the heat necessary to maintain the internal temperatures. This solution is especially useful with solid wall properties where it makes mores sense to maintain temperatures rather than trying to ‘heat from cold’ with each cycle.
